Matcha Facts

Derived from Japanese root words, ma = powdered, cha = tea

It is a finely-ground green tea powder known for its steady source of caffeine, numerous health benefits, vibrant green color, and earthy taste.

Matcha was first discovered in the 8th century in China and comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant. It was later brought to Kyoto, Japan by a Buddhist monk named Eisai.

Matcha is packed with antioxidants. It is composed <50% of catechin polyphenols, which are among the most potent antioxidants. Matcha offers protection against various types of cancer, aids in preventing heart disease, lowers cholesterol, contributes to clear skin, prevents joint inflammation, and fights the aging process.

It contains the amino acid L-Theanine, which partners with caffeine to promote sustained focus and energy throughout the day. It is renowned for its ability to induce relaxation in the brain, muscles, and blood vessels. L-Theanine contributes to lowering blood pressure, uplifting mood, and encourages a sense of calmness.

~ 40-180 mg of caffeine. For reference, a double shot of espresso has around 60-150 mg of caffeine.

Yes! Mana Matcha’s matcha is 100% organic, vegan, and gluten free.

Our matcha is sourced from the city of Uji, Japan, the #1 producer of Japanese traditional tea. Our organic tea is grown using farming practices that promote ecological balance and biodiversity. It is cultivated without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Ceremonial grade matcha was originally dedicated to traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, which means it is the highest quality grade of matcha.

Matcha’s properties can quickly alter due to the humidity, but fear not! Once you open your matcha, we suggest making sure it is tightly-sealed and storing it in a cool place (even a refrigerator) to help preserve the fresh quality as long as possible.
